Beam Finite Element Analysis

I set up and solved a finite element model of a beam with fixed boundary conditions and a downward shear force at the end using SolidWorks Simulation. I then changed these fixed boundary conditions to modified.

Normal stress in the Y and Z direction is zero from the force applied to the end of the beam. There seems to be positive normal stress in the X-direction on the top of the beam and negative normal stress in the X-direction on the underside of the beam. These stresses are concentrated toward the fixed end of the beam, mirroring the Von Mises stress plot. The Von Mises stress plot is the positive square root of the square of the normal stresses in the X-direction.
